Eco-Friendly Laundry Products

Updated: Aug 28, 2021

If you request Eco-friendly cleaning and include laundry, are you choosing the correct detergent?

Eco-friendly products are NOT created equal.

Let’s first begin with how often should you do laundry?

Choosing a more “green” lifestyle requires moderation and that includes minimizing washing. Only wash clothes if dirty! Avoid washing clothes immediately after every wear.

What options do I have?

Start first with the fabric of your clothes. Are they natural fibers or synthetic? Natural fibers like wool and linen are NATURALLY antimicrobial and will not hold scent too long. Choose more sustainable clothing!

If you must wash clothes more often, wash your loads in cold. If possible, hang dry your clothes rather than loading the clothes in the dryer.

If there is no option to hang dry, AVOID dryer sheets.

TIP: The alternative to dryer sheets are wool dryer balls.

Now lets return to detergent. You may ask yourself how do I look for eco-friendly detergent?

The best labels to look for should contain the word “organic” or “biobased”.

AVOID soaps! Many eco-friendly detergents are simply laundry soap. Laundry soap is not a good option! Soap consists of fats and oils. Using soap to wash clothes will clean less and attract more buildup. Remember laundry soap will attract dirt in your clothing.

Now you may ask, how do I choose the correct detergent?

That is ultimately up to your needs. Do you care about the containers?

Many detergents are still contained in recycled plastic or cardboard. There has been popularity for laundry pods. Laundry pods are great until they don’t melt completely in the washing cycle. To prevent having to rewash find a better alternative!

Our recommendation is to go towards Laundry sheets.

Laundry sheets are hypoallergenic, cruelty free, biodegradable and most importantly plastic free!

Laundry sheets are strips of concentrated detergent. Just like laundry pods they will completely dissolve in both hot and cold water every time.

You can cut the sheets in smaller sizes if the loads are smaller. This allows for you to conveniently store your detergent at home or while traveling!

Give laundry sheets and wool dryer balls a try for a more eco-friendly lifestyle. When you schedule a green cleaning and request laundry ensure that your detergent and laundry products are also eco-friendly.
